Who am I?

My name is Pepe De Clercq. I'm a Dutch Graphic Design student. My specialty lies with interactive media, crafting experiences for your audiences. As an avid 'gamer' in my childhood, I was always fascinated by the worlds I'd be brought into through video games. Now, I've set out to create such worlds - and hopefully make someone's world a better place doing so.

What do I do?

Besides knowledge on design, game development and traditional art theory, I've dabbled in many forms of digital creation; 2D art and collages in software like Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo, D art using Blender, music production in FL Studio, programming in C# for game development in Unity... And the list is ever-growing. I pride myself in curiousity and resourcefulness, always willing to dive into a subject and learn more about it.

Why do I do?

As a Graphic Designer, I've always tried to design with emotion. Finding interesting methods to combine modern trends with elements that truly speak to a specific consumer. Diving into a target audience and speaking to them on a personal level, rather than seeing them as statistics and numbers. To me, Graphic Design can be as much an artistic platform as it is a bare necessity. Everywhere you go, you'll see the work of advertisers, webdevelopers, or UI/UX designers. But how much of it is interesting enough to remember? In my works, I tend to hang on the edge of maximalism. Embracing the digital world, often incorporating elements of nostalgia and forgotten media into my designs.

What is a 'Sewermouse'?

The name 'Sewermouse' started as an idea for an interactive web app. It'd be a social media platform set out to connect digital artists of any kind. Due to the vague vision for this concept, I quickly disbanded it. - but the name remained. Mice of the Sewers: rats. We often view them as vermin. Vile creatures to stay at a distance from at all times. Society often sees those who dare to think outside the box too much as weird, unfit people only out to disrupt their peace. Having an untamed, loud-spoken mind can cause society to deem you 'vermin' to their mundanity. I embrace that status - innovation is not born from clinging to what works. It is born from figuring out what doesn't.

Thanks, take me back.
